Swim socks worked fine for surfing

Postby Bub » Wed Jun 06, 2007 12:54 am

I mentioned in an earlier post that I bought some 5 mm swimfin socks for my bodyboarding and was curious if the would work for surfing. I tried it out this past weekend surfing and they worked perfectly fine. Good grip on the board, no seams busted etc. So if you're tight for cash, new $20 socks will work fine if your in a pinch instead of new $40+ surf boots. I would still guess that regular surfing boots would probably last longer and be more durable but I had no issues at all with the socks. Just thought I'd share that info.

I could see that happening over time. The bottoms of my swim socks seem to have a pretty durable rubber tread to them. Rubbing the sides of the socks or the front toe area where the rubber bottom is stiched to the neopreane sides...that is where the rubbing on the surfboard (with the combo of sand and wax) on the pop-up I could see wearing them out kinda quickly. Oh well...water temps where I surf are nearly 65F now so I can go bare foot until mid-late October.
