Surfing sunglasses

I didn't think I'd need them, but I'd rather be safe than sorry now. $$$ cannot buy new eyes.

What options do we have out there for surfing sunglasses? I'm looking for something that will stay attached to the head after a wipeout, and something that won't fog.

About your only option for sunglasses is sea specs.
Ive got a pair, and frankly they dont work very well :roll:

They stay on, but they mist up really easy so you cant see flesh all.

Ahhh ic. Are there any viable solutions to the whole fogging issue? Like have you tried spitting on the inside of the lenses?

Tried keeping 'em dry (screws up your surfing), keeping 'em wet (works but only for a couple of minutes, and the drops get in the way almost as much as the fog), and spitting on them (no joy).

You can get stuff to stop misting (I use it on my motorcycle helmet visor) but I doubt it would work for very long.

Ive given up on them, more or less - the only time I'd ever use them now is when sitting in the line-up facing the setting sun, when its ultra-clean, and fairly small. If the other option is get out, I'd just about go with the seaspecs instead.

Oakley makes a Water Jacket. I have no idea how well it works, but they exist. If you are having trouble with it fogging up, try scuba diving drops. I use them on all my goggles for swimming and such, works like a charm.

Oakley's are well expensive - not sure whether they work any better than the cheapo copies, but I'll leave that to anyone that's used them.

I've tried cheapo versions, and like DBBB, they just fog up, or get droplets on them and you can't see.......

I just use my hand to shield my eyes

Tried Sea Specs (which are an Oakley knock-off) - they don't work. Kurtis USA came out with Kurtis surf goggles this year and they are awesome. Made by surfers. A couple of my bros and I wear them now - take a little getting used to but everything about them is made for surfing. You shoud check them out.

In addition to Sea Specs, there are Silverfish (different vendor, same thing really) and Rec Sport (Sportmax 31XX). I use the latter two. My eyes are very sensitive to light and after one day of burned eyes and monster headache, I knew I needed something. I started with tinted swimmer's goggles. They were a pain and cut all periperial vision. I require a perscription and didn't like seeing most things fuzzy without it. So, both of the sunglasses I use in the water are perscription. I've been using Rain X and diver's defogger that is thick dishwashing soap. I don't use these things together. The result is not perfect, but it is far better than without. Plus, with the perscription, I'll be able to see the shark when it munches me!

Oh, another sunglass made for surfing is Kurtis. You can Google up any of he ones I mentioned.

There are loads of options and the majority are very similar, probably all made in the same factory in the far east.
You just need to check they have the features you want.
I wouldn't go for elasticated strap I found those with an adjustable strap does the job excellently, you'll want 100% UVA and UVB protection, polarized will help with glare, cushion on the nose to reduce impact when duck diving, and be sure the frame and lens is strong (polycarbonate).

I agree with youngatheart, they are all probably all made in the same factory in some 3rd world country. I think polarized is mandatory not optional.
