Surfing Magazines

hey guys, don't really post here to often, but I wanted your opinions on which surfing magazines you like. what are some basic pros and cons of some of the ones you know?

I get Surfing Magazine, and while it's decent and does a good job of giving me an escape from these damn Rocky Mountains, it seems to be lacking some decent writing every so often.

so gimme your favs, the ones you hate, stuff like that...

In general i just read carve, its a good mag with loadsa pics etc. loadsa of info, and a surf girl mag.

Also Pitpilot is pretty good, its only about british sufing mainly which is a change. Got some good stuff

I only read wavelength once, another british surf mag. was ok but i wouldnt reccomend it.

Wavelength is good for the UK scene but SURFING is great for everything.

I always get Carve for some reason, they are good with the latest surf news, whats going on in the surf world and shows all the latest surf products....
I also buy Surfer (US Import) sometimes.

If you're looking for better writing and stories, then check out Surfer's Path and Surfer's Journal.

Canadian or US Rocky Mountains? Either way I havnt read one, cus it literaly launched like yesterday or today(cant remember), but it is called "SBC surf". Like I said, no idea about how it is as a mag, but apparently they did a killer write up on lake surfing.

TSP and Carve.
But I think Podcasting has a great future as well.
It is only time before the magazines start to commercialise them, but I hope not as badly as Surfer Mag does.

Out of surfer, surfing, and transworld surf. Transworld is by far the best. Best articles, best photos, and best info.

wavelength and surfers path, although i only tend to get about 4 or 5 a year.

I'm not a fan of surfing mags, it's like reading People or some other trashy rag. If you're into learning about whose hot and what the latest surfing trends are, any one of the rags will have plenty of ads trying to sell you the latest gear. If you're keeping tabs on whose the latest "hot" surfer, etc. you've lost my sympathy because I just don't give a carp about any of those peeps. Sure, they are probably cool, and very skilled, but what does that do for me? Always seems like the younger more inexperienced guys are spouting off about something they've read about, the latest, greatest shaper, or some new trendy item. Believe me, moving your fin about on the board isn't going to change the way you surf appreciably. Sweet Jesu! I'm here to surf, not read about it. Of course, being stuck in the Rockies somewhere, you have my complete sympathy.

i agree those are the three best mags but Surfing is way better than Transworld in my opinion..Transword's articles are too short and not nearly as well written as SURFING. also it gets really repetitive and seems just to appeal to the yonger crowd. I subscrbed there for like 3 years but ever since i switched to SURFING ive been more stoked.

hmm, i guess im going to have to swith from surfing magazine to surfer, it sounds better.
Theirs a mag called water here, its really nice and the pictures are on good quality paper, has nice reads (only read it once at a store.)

Adrenalin - by far the best boardsports magazine ever. Unfortunatley I can't find copies anymore, I assume it went bust becuase it didn't cover pros and comps and so didn't get the right advertising, it also had a general anti big industry subversive vibe - maybe readers of surf magazines don't like that kind of thing and it didn't sell?

Wavelength Defo. I read it all the time. Its not just info but all about the 'culture' of surfing and stuff. Its wkd in my opinion. :lol:

well i don't really think i would if i lived on the beach, i never did before i got back here to colorado...thanks for the input though guys, i'll look into a few of what you've recommended.
