I guess we are spoiled here,,,,those waves are considered trash for this area....Thanks for the compliments as always,,,I use a Canon 30D with a 70/300 lens.

I understand the shots are for everyone to see the waves and stuff, but I'd love to see some cropped around the action and the surfer.
Great work, I'm a videographer, but I like to fool around with still stuff.

I just started to get into the DSLR stuff with the Rebel and a 75-300mm lens. I want to get the Sigma 50-500mm soon.

Yeah here in the G.O.M. we'll Surf ANYTHING LOL. I am looking forward to a little Northwesterly swell tomorrow. Should be waist to chest high, windy sloppy , choppy, and FUN!!!

Sunday we got 30 M.P.H. winds on the way. Now that is when it gets real interesting out in the Gulf :shock:

I haven't yet bitten the bullet and gone digital, although I want to so bad. I still think there is going to be a big price drop (hopefully very soon) or there will be more used DSLRs out there to buy. Although I did just pick up a new film body, I got a Canon A2 on Monday!

I'm super stoked, I've been messing around with it for a while and it's great, very fast, and has the vertical grip much like the power booster that is used on the Mark II series. Plus up until now I've been using a manual focus/manual drive camera so now I can switch the lenses I get for this one over to digital when I get it.

BDW, your 70/300 lens, is it Canon? What's the maximum aperture on it? I have a kit lens for the camera now, and I am looking at some zoom lenses, just getting an idea of everything.

I shoot with a 350d and a borrowed 70-200f4L, stunning lens, but could do with more reach, thinking of buying the 70-300IS myself, those shots look good, thanks.

Generally, as long as the lense is the same size, it should work, you may not get all the bells and whistles on the camera body to work with a manual lense. A lot of the digital SLRs use CPU lenses, so if you have those for your SLR, then it will also work with a digital.

tomcat360 - the canon A2 is an EOS EF mount, all the canon dSLR's use EF (or EF-S) mounts.

Basicaly every EF lens will work with every EF and EF-S mount.

EF-S lenses will only work with some of the small sensor digitals (20/30d, 300/350/400d).

5D and 1D are just EF mounts(and expensive...)

The 70-300IS is f4-5.6 or so. IS adds up to 3 stops of help.

Right, thanks for the help, I had that part figured out. That's one of the reasons I got this body.

Although because the sensor is further away/closer than the mirror of a film EOS, isn't it more like an 18-55mm lens for digital is near the same of a 35-90mm for film?
