Traveling with a surfboard

US Airways/America West is $80 per board, United is between $65 & $90 depending on the flight, Air Canada and West Jet won't let you take them. Some smaller planes or airlines won't let you take them. Check with your airline and ask them to confirm you can take your boards.

Really? I've never had any problem with a surfboard. I guess i'll know to stay away from these airlines.

btw, I flew United with a board before, no problems. I am flying Delta to Costa Rica in a few weeks, they better not charge extra

Is the costs normaly per board? I am going to mexico in january, and I have a two board bag. Is it just a single cost per bag?

alright, i think with the cost of shipping a board and fear of dinging my new board i'll just rent a board at PR. Thanks Though

Depends on the airline, but normally it is per board. A friend of mine tried to stick 2 boards in one bag, they opened it up and counted them and charged him for 2!!

But if you have someone on the counter who is decent they won't check and you can take them both for one price. Just don't tell them anything and hopefully they won't check!!

For example, America West, if it is considered an Express Flight, they won't let you take any surfboards, regardless of size. Delta, if it is a Skywest flight, same thing. United has been good for me but I heard they are starting to charge heavy fees starting in the new year, but that is just a rumor. America West/US Airlines will take any surfboard up to 9' length for $80 each way.

i think jennie was quoted something like £300 to fly her Al Merrick from UK to costa rica. probably cheaper to buy a board out there and sell it when youre done
