Where to go for a honey moon?

Now then,
My good lady and I are tying the knot next year (July) and we have been discussing where to go for our honey moon! I have been surfing since Feb this year and am at a stage where I can catch waves and ride along them. So we are looking for somewhere that I can surf and she can lie on the beach without fear of being hassled. I'm not too bothered at this stage by huge surf, so ideally would like 3-4 ft. I've been reading through storm rider guide looking for ideas and have been put off quite a few places due to statements like "fierce localism" and "sharky". We don't have a huge budget (not sure at the moment how much), and would like some other stuff to do other than go to the beach all day. I would love to go for a surf for 2hrs a day somewhere where I can wear a pair of boardies (not much chance in N Wales) and then go off somewhere. My mate and his girlfriend (who is my GF's best friend) went to Barbados and he raved about it how good it was etc, his GF told my GF that she hated it, she was scared to lie on the beach and hated going into the town so that s that out of the question (she's not a wimp as she went to Oz on her own).
So, does anybody have any suggestions as to where we can go, sorry to ramble on for a while!

The Canary Islands?
Good surf. Stuff to do outside of surfing. Safe for your wife to be to laze on the beach. Can do it quite cheaply from the UK.

Will second the canaries, Up to you which one as that all have there merits/downsides.

Have you thought about southen spain and portugal. Geared towards tourism allready, in the EU relativly sfe etc.. I know its seems common but there are some cracking gems down there.
Further afield, (not sure on your budjet) but California is an option/ There is a huuuuuge stretch of coastline in this state not just the crowded breaks you allways see pics off.
If you do decided to be a lil more adventerious then Puerto (mexico) is cranking

Hi guys,

Either of you two been to the Canaries? I've been to Lanzarote load of times and the surf was always on the north side of the island, which from recollection always looked highly volcanic, which my book confirms "Sharp, shallow lava reefs" and also "Fierce localism" "Thefts and car crime". Don't wish to sound like a big jessy but I'll probably be surfing on my own, unless there are locals there, and also I'm going to have to show this to the future Mrs to say this is where I think we should go. Also, my friend use to wind surf at a very high level and he said that there is a tip off the north coast that has one of the highest concentrations of sharks (my biggest fear in the world)! Are there any of the Canaries with beach breaks?

Pretty much all the sand in the Canaries has been imported because it is pretty much all volcanic rock beds.

I've been to Tenerife about 5 times (just family hols) and found it really friendly, but the windy conditions seemed better for windsurfers than surfers.

Been to Fuert which is the least tourist developed of the islands and the most 'surf' orentated. As with anywhere there will alwyas be oportuinists but i didn't have any probs nor has anyone i know.
Great island for both of you, car is a must to travel and see all the stuff (and Surf) n.track IS ok by a normal car so don't bother spending extra on 4x4.

Must see's-
Eco museum - great insite into how the island was initally inhabited. Its an outdoor/indoor walk around thype thing. Really good.
The American Star - Wrecked liner thats been boshed up propper but its huge and right on the coast line. looks insane!
Steve irwin wannabe - to the south of the island there a croc guy. highly amusing. Great sea zoo too.
Corfet - (as marked on the SR eu guide) Well fun drive on mostly rock mountain road. Loads of random stone piles, chipmunks and goats. hehehe

Hey mate, go to Fiji. Looks like they could be about to have a war but the waves are insane. Ya missus will love ya . Its heaven on earth. Really special. Theres heaps a spots but Tavarua is a good bet...Expensive but you Poms are loaded. And you have one of the best waves at your leisure. You can stay down on the coral coast , heaps cheaper but less surf options. Check out www.wannasurf.com and look up Fiji. You will not be disappointed.

california is nice and not crowded in summer.
Their are some safe and easy places in San Francisco and also some harder and more challenging.
Its really nice around here in the summer and there is plenty to do.
No need to worry about the crowds the beach is huge and there are many uncrowded spots.
If you want you can go surf under the prety golden gate bridge, sometimes waves come there.
also sharks are not a realaity here.
In all of california there is less than 1 attack a year and noone has been deadly for the past 200 years.
So no need to worry about that!
