My longboard and Retro used to have a screw that goes through the fin and into a metal plate that sits inside the fin groove, I'd like to know what size screw that is, I think it's American

Take it to the hardware store. Ask.

Or use a thread finder. Have them at hardware stores.

The screw and plate you are talking about are pretty much standard sized. Any decent surf shop will carry them.
