very new and need help please

i first would like to say hello to everyone

i have been look around for a little now and really like this forum and the people here.

ok enough corny stuff i really need help i live in Lancaster PA about 3 hours from any beach :cry:

i am only about 15 and i weigh about 112 pounds my height is 5'8 or so. i dont know what type of board to get i am a newbie. i was thinking of a hybrid fish or a fish but i dont know i am i good phy. condition. i try to get to the beach 2 times a mounth but i dont drive yet so its really hard. i usally go to OC md.

Ahh, Amish Country. I have a cousin that lives there, not Amish though. Interesting place names there though...Intercourse, Virginville, Blue Ball.
Sorry I can't help you with deciding on a board, there is a guy on here that is from the OC, Maryland area. I'm from the OC, CA area.
Are there any issues with your transportation, would there be a limit on the size of board due to the mode of transport?

As your new and considering your weight I would go for a 7' 4" mini mal.
I would advise against bic and NSP, more other makes should be great

yep Amish county well the car that i will be getting is a pontiac vibe so i dont think that it will be a problem with size as long as it is not like 9'

i like the idea of a mini mal (mini malabu right?) but as i progress will i be able to cutbacks and surf white stuff? till i get good?

another question i want to go to the beach more than a week end every week over the summer but how could i do that? a trailer?

funboards are good to learn on but wouldnt really go for any thing under 7ft for a first board

what is epoxy?

epoxy boards are glassed using epoxy resin and tend to be a bit stronger and lighter than the traditional glassed boards

i would recomend going for a bic or nsp though there pretty much impossible to break, even heard stories of people runing over them with out so much as a dent, plus there pretty cheap and easy to ride, so ideal to learn on

and i found a board on ebay its a New 6' 10" Epoxy funbaord it looks really nice what are ur opinions?

you can pick up a second hand bic and sell it once you out grow it for the same price you brought it for, there perfect to learn on, hell i still have a 9'2 NSP and can pull of floaters, REO's, cut backs and even cross step and hang five, its not so much the board its the riders abblity.

BICs / NSP's are the ideal board to learn on then if you wanna better board just sell it and get a custom

I would think places in NJ would be closer (Surf City, Long Beach, Ocean City...check a map).

You could probably pick up a decent used board for any one of the surf shops in those areas listed above (just drive around or check the internet for shops in the area). Especially now; a lot of shops get an influx of funboards and mini-mal type boards at the end of summer.

6'10 epoxy funboard sounds fine to me, considering your age youll learn quick but youll want to get in the surf more often than twice a month if you really want to make progress.
epoxy boards are great cos they dont get dinged when you bang them against walls/floors/doorways/your head.

I don't know that it really matters. It's all pretty much beach breaks; which can help spread out the crowd. When you go somewhere; don't try to go out where there are a lot of surfers already. Try to find a peak that only has a couple surfers out, or find your own peak with a couple surfers nearby. If you're going out were there are already surfers in the line up; watch them for a little while and you'll be able to tell rather quickly if they "rip" or not.

In NJ - Sea Isle City is a good beginner place. The water is shallow all the way to the Avalon headland, so it diminishes their power a bit until it gets a bit more exposed beneath 40th, probably. So 78th-90th street in Sea Isle you should check out.

For your first board, don't worry about it being 'cool', as everyone will know if you're a beginner or not by the way you surf. If you have an expensive cool board, you'll just look more like a kook.

As for XPE foam.. dunno, but if you're looking at BIC or NSP, it shouldn't really matter.
