Chinese Longboards

Hey all. Just wondering what you all think of the Chinese boards coming onto the market. I have always been a little bit ANTI but I saw one the other day that was one of the best looking "traditional" boards I have ever seen. I'm a firm believer in supporting your local shaper but man this was sweet. 9'6" , volane glass , full pigment colour , pin lines , just the whole trip. And it was $890 compared to about $1200-$1500 for a similar product. Oh yeah and the blank was aussie made and so was the glass. NO I didnt buy it on principle but it is going to be hard to go past next time. Has anyone got one or tried one?

mmmm i would be suspicouse good looking doesnt mean a thing compared to quality. Fools gold syndrome not suggesting its not a great fantastic board but i would be very suspicouse.

Buy from home you'll be riding a board made with passion rather than purely for money. Better still go out buy the materials and shape your own, then you'll really understand why we don't like cheap imports even if they do look good.

most pop out boards are made in china, i think cortez makes thers in tiwan or china, but still to boards made in the uk, even better, stick to your local shaper

Steering totally away from surf boards, but my mate owns a sword shop and they sell a lot of the rip off Chinese stuff and it is so poor quality. Looks exactly that same but falls to bits. He said China is in trouble because of doing this, they are chopping down forests at a rate of knots to get hold of wood, the polution is a huge problem due to this industry boom. Keep your money close to home, if there is a problem you can always take it back to the local guy!

I've always bought local shaped boards for the fact, that the shapers actually ride the same breaks as me. I'd rather have a board shaped for Florida surf than a board made by a machine in china.

Cool, thanks for the feedback everyone. Good to hear ya thoughts. I've always bought custom boards and "tried" to shape a few too.... Just thought I'd see how the rest of the world felt.
