I have been surf forecasting for myself for years, and now I run a website putting up the local surf forecast for Bracklesham and the Witterings, as has been said elsewhere in this thread - learn about pressure charts as that is the best thing for the UK. As windsurfers will tell you, wave bouys don't really tell you the whole story - you can have a fantastic looking 8ft ground swell 1 mile off shore that never makes it too the beach for a variety of reasons.
