I'm in North Carolina & am heading to Colorado on a whitewater kayaking trip in a few days, a bud of mine wants me to bring his longboard to him for a Baja trip later this year.
Here's the dilemma, how to fit it on my roof rack. I've got a mountain bike and space booster case already on the roof. The space left is perfect to load my two whitewater kayaks on their sides. The cross bars are padded and the longboard is in a really nice padded bag.
A couple of questions:
1) is it possible/advisable to carry a surfboard in a padded bag on its side next to the boats or will that f it up?
2) How about laying the board flat on the crossbars, maybe adding some extra padding, towels or whatever in the bag, then strapping the boats to kayak stackers on top of the board? Both boats together weigh around 85-90pds.
Any advice on this is greatly appreciated. I really want to get my boy his board and the only other alternative is sticking it in the vehicle & let a few feet hang out the rear window, which I really don't want to do for a couple thousand mile road trip.
