I also lost a car once by putting car keys on the wheel. Luckily found it back again after 3 days without radio, but pretty much in tact. If there's a cafe close to where you surf we find they usually keep our keys safe, allthough wettie pocket works best. Feel sorry for the guys with electronic (flashlite and immobilizer) keys. The watertight thingamabob sounds cool.

People are scandalous! When I was just a young kid my mom wouldnt drive me to the beach

so my friend and I had to bike it with our body boards strapped to our backs and it was a 2 hour trip oon bike. When we got there we chained our bikes to a set of stairs. Then we went out for 2 or 3 hours, when we came back out our bikes were gone. Some jackass busted the chain and made off with them. The part of this that pissed me off the most was that where the bikes were chained was like 10 feet away from the lifeguards office

! My friend was even more mad because both bikes were his :cry:

, we had a long walk home to think of how we were going to explain it

. 15 years later and its only getting worse, they'll steal the chain too even though they dont know the combination :!:

lol.. Island' .. yep fraid so .. steal the chain , the stairs , the lifeguards ...everything these days has a re-sell price thanks to Fleshin' Ebay ... i hereby declare my undying hatered for Ebay ..legalized fencing :evil:

i used to use the shoelace round the neck with my housekey when i walked to the beach and my car key on my old car. I know have a renault which has one of those stupid remote keys, I was gonna get a copy made but the remote is still needed for the immobiliser so id have to leave it in the car and anyone breaking in could still drive off with the car then.
So i got one of these keysafes (i think someone already mentioned them here) from a local builders merchants -

works a treat, ive even dragged it along the road for a mile when i forgot to take it of where id locked it onto the car and it hardly scratched so i know no-ones gonna get into it without an angle grinder and a few hours work. well worth the £30.
They also do lockable straps for roofracks, there are people out there nicking boards off cares, aspecially if you travel in europe.

I noticed the Bubbleloc rashguard suggestion in this thread... does anyone know of a similar one available in the U.S. by any chance? I'm looking for a waterproof solution and am wary about tying keys on a string since my dad lost his wedding ring in the ocean that way. :b

I use the Denko PakPak, it's like a pouch that you can put keys in, even paper money, and it remains dry. I stick it down the back of my wetsuit. It's really uncomfortable when you're walking to the beach and all you can think about is 'this ******* thing' ! BUt once in the sea I don't notice it at all. Its very flexible. It got tested in a washing machine with toilet paper in it and that stayed dry! And safe - your main concern, it seems, as you would certainly notice if you lost it.

You can buy them on line so I'm sure you'd be able to get hold of on in the US. I paid £19.99 - i think it was worth it.

The bubbleloc vest has the same denko pakpak wallet, just attached... so they told me at the surf shop.

those rashys with water tight pockets are amazin, really reliable- im from northern ireland, we dnt calem chavs, r name for them is stiks or steeks. we call the female version of them millys. gd ol 'norn ireland'

Any good ideas for hiding keys in the beach ... i usually leave them under a coconut :oops:

Maybe it was the life guards who stole your bikes.

ha! no worries the thing is that they tok the bag and i saw it so i dropped the board and ran behind them but couldn't catch up since i was in the water when i saw some guys too near my car ... :roll:

at least they opened the car's door but didn't know how to or didn't have the guts to start the car.

My car has one of the electric keys. I went to see if the local key man would cut me one but the he said you can only get them from the dealer. So now I take the master key with me, it came with the other 2 keys and is grey but with no electrics in it. Works a treat but if I ever loose it I'll get a55 raped by the dealer for a new one, guy in the shop said it'll be close to the price of the car!

just take the key you put in the car to start it and open the door with that, leave all the other keys and automatic buttom thingys in the car

where i live, the people that wear acdc shirts are usually old guys (in their 40's or 50's) who are genuine acdc and rock n roll fans.
where i live, the "chavs" are guys that wear skate shoes with reeeeaaallly loose laces and big tongues, sweat bands and trucker caps or those caps that have flat brims. its alright to wear stuff like skate shoes if you're a skater or sweat bands if you're playing sport, but these people think they look cool...
