Leash Plug Position

Hi,

So, I bought one of those EZ-Plugs and search online for installation. Every site that I saw was saying to put it 8" from the nose right in the center. So, I put it on, and did some more searching since that didn't look quite right and found out that I was reading the instructions for a bodyboard, and that you should attach the leash to the tail of a surfboard.

So now, I have the plug up by the nose of the board...is this okay? Or do I need to get another one and put it by the tail of the board?

??? you put the leash at the front of the board? have you got a bodyboard or surfboard? i hope its a bodyboard.

ok i just looked up those ez-plugs and theyre stick on right? then its not a complete disaster.
it needs to be near the tail, otherwise your gonna be lying on your leash and tripping over it when you stand up.

yea, I have a surfboard. the thing was that I was reading instructions and didin't realize they were instructions for bodyboards. so I guess I'll have to go and get another plug...

so to make this explicitly clear for me, where exactly does it go? down by the tail (does it matter if its center, left or right?), on the top or bottom of the board?

put it on the top!
they are generally in the center (some are offset like on fishes with big swallow tails)

I would guess about 4" from the back (I'm not near my board to look at it)

Sorry, dont mean to be unsympathetic but thats the funniest thing Ive read in ages! :wink:

Anyway, I doubt it matters - one hard pull on that when you're under a headhigh wave and it'll pop right off... :shock:

Mmmmmmmm.......I was thinking that same thing (one hard tug and it'll be away)
But I didnt say anything cos I didn't want to sound stupid.
I thought they'd invented a new super sticky substance

yea yea, I'm new, I'll take the jokes...

but i think it would take a bit more than a hard wave to pull this thing off. i think it would have to be like lodged in a jetty and have me dive into the water...

Yes, thats about the strength of a half decent wave pulling the board away from you. Really. :shock:

best bet is take it to a shaper, or someone you know is good at board repairs, and have them glass in a proper leash plug, or whatever they do.

ok, well thanks to everyone for the suggestions, but I had already bought the plug before I even posted this, so I will be using that until it breaks. only $7, so it's not too much of a loss (although I did screw up and had to get another one, so $14).

if it breaks too quickly, I'll just go and get one installed.

The EZ-Plug sucks. It broke on my third session with it. I caught and wiped out on a ~5ft wave and it just ripped right off...

Hey Castor, the lesson to learn is it's best not to take shortcuts, cos they cost you twice as much in the end

If you havent got the money to buy the best (or close to it) or to go for the best option, save up you pennies a little longer

yea, the thing is that I actually have plenty of money, so i just got a real one installed. i was just trying to take a shortcut with time.
