Take-off Epoxy surfboards

I was going to go to Gorda but the swell hasn't picked up yet. It's still only 3' @ around 10 sec. Maybe Gorda on Sunday. But yeah, the swell should peak Monday but the winds may be on it strong from the NE. Anyways, have fun going to SS on Sat. Go Astros!!

For what it's worth. I've surfed many years, and had a serious number of baords. Currently I own an expensive 9'6 which I'm not keen on using when the water is crowded. So, I bought a NSP Funboard, to use as a "low-value" board, one which I don't care what happens to. It's proved to be really good. Very strong, catches waves easily and performs very well, especially considering the price. I bet the surf shop which said "stay away from them" doesn't actually sell them!

I am thinking of getting a Take Off board myself, has anyone got any other stories, good or bad about these boards?

i have just ordered (yay at last an epoxy big boy flyer take-off surfboard 6"8'....did i make the right choice or should i have chosen a NSP or bic?

Stop buynig pop-outs! For the money of buying 2boards, in the long run it's easier to buy a nice custom board.

take off board are made by the same people as nsp but there the next step up from it

I've been using my NSP board to surf in rivers. The board has stood up to numberous poundings and beatings that you find in rivers.

All though i haven't been surfing for a very long time i did have it in Costa Rica this past winter and it's a great first board. The new shapes are relatively responsive and my NSP New 6'6" board floats my 6' 175 lbs frame just fine.

Ask any shaper...any decent surfer and they will tell you that the bic and nsp boards are simply poorly shaped. They are durable and will work fine for beginners. The only issue is that many of these boards cost as much if not more than a pop out epoxy that has a good shape or even a custom. My advice is get a board that you can have in your quiver for years.

I have taught surf lessons for years and my experience with these boards is not positive. I have found the NSPs to miss teh mark in terms of their rail volume and overall shape.

The Bics seem better but .... they are a pen company. Lets not forget that. Would you buy a Car made by Coke?

Hi Becky, this may be some time after you've posted the question, but thought I'd reply to help if still needed. The only epoxy boards I would buy are Tuflite, as they are light, bouyant, responsive and like their name,,er tough.(No I don't sell their boards, but would love a job doing just that!! ha ha!). NSP boards are quite tough, but comparitively heavy. It does come down to cost, but for me I would just save up for the best. Andy.

Good call, probably Bics= Coke and NSP = Pepsi, there's a place for them, alongside the food values of McDonalds, some people actually believe they are getting value for money with any of these products, Sad when you think about it.
Here's a comparison, down here we take our dogs for walk, council provides a disposable biodegradable poop bag, scoop poop, put in rubbish bin next to McDonald's wrapper etc, I swear that the bag full of dog poop smells exactly like the McDonald's garbage.
BTW I hate equally the people who leave their dog poop and the people who leave their garbage around the beach, both within easy put in to a bin insert flotilla of swear words

Do yourself a favor. Take the advice of a surf instructor and seasoned surfer. DO not waste your money on a BIC or NSP.
