my great grand daddy is from trinidad. really want to visit. if you find any surf post where it is, so i can surf there when i go.

d surfs aren't bad but u shouldn't expect to get swells like in Hawaii or Fijii, Tobago our twin island has better winds but u'll have to talk to locals about 'Secret spots' if they're willin to tell.

Yeah, I'm from Trinidad and have surfed in Trinidad. In fact I was there recently trying to surf, but the waves were crap. Although they aren't crap all the time people..... when i was there for Xmas, I had a surprisingly good day all for myself in Grande Riviere!!! The water's nice and warm.... boardies and (optional) rashie would do, and it gets much better than the slop you've seen me post pictures of before!

surf n snow and trinisurfer, there are a few places to surf on the North Coast in Trinidad. My favourite spot, which as it happens is I think the furthest, is Grande Riviere.... When I'm there, I usually don't see many others around... but that's because you drive past all the other beaches on the way and see if anyone's out. If they are, I just keep driving.. That way I usually score waves on my own! There are a few beaches in Toco, whose names I forget, but there's one called Big Bay and one called Beach Break that I used to go to a lot when I surfed at home. (This is on the NE Coast btw)
Coming from the NW, you will go past Maracas (which everybody says you can't surf at, but I have a few times), Las Cuevas, and then you get to Blanchisuesse. I used to surf at a beach called Damian's a lot when I lived at home, and there's another one called D2 and another called Pipes which I've been to a few times..... All in all, Trinidad doesn't have the biggest waves in the world, etc and they ain't world class breaks, but if you're going to be there, you might as well have a surf!

Also, another place that everyone says you can't surf is Mayaro. It honestly is not a good place to go, but I've seen some nice waves out there a few times and surfed some of them..... the advantage of going to the places that everybody else refuses to go is that you score these waves on your own!

and this here is Maracas beach..... apparently on that day there was a freak 25 foot wave comin in!

Yea i remember dat day i wuz actually suppose to go dat day but my transport got sick...glad i didn't go though. The waves came straight up to road level. It prob had some serious rip tides aswell.

I found a lot of information about surfing in trinidad already the only question i still have is are there any good Surf shops except the one in West Mall. I just came back from Cocoa each Florida but found out that Caribean airlines since the first december doesnt allow lugedge over 62inch so i couldnt bring a board with me from there.. Im still a bigginer but i would like to coninue surfing in trinidad..

well there is a surf shop in Trincity Mall, but it's the same as West Mall, but even smaller and with no boards.... according to my friend, it's more of a surf apparel shop. If you're still a beginner, I would suggest going to the surf shop and asking if they could hook you up with one of the few people who teach surfing on the island. You might be able to rent one, and they'll prob tell you where to go to get waves too!

My family is from T&T, but I've never gotten to surf there. Usually when they take me to the beach, the water looks like a lake.
Tho, I bet hurricane season brings some waves...

well it depends on which beach you've been to and the time of year. Sometimes it is totally flat, and other times, it is lovely.

They always go to Balandra Bay. My Trini family doesn't surf or anything, so they like to cook out at Balandra.

Balandra is quite nice actually, and there are two sides.... the calm side and the rough side.... usually one of the sides gets some kind of swell. The pictures I have posted were taken at the calmside at the far end. Obviously not Hawaii standards, but still rideable!

i love surfing in Trinidad from a beginner's standpoint. Not crowded, friendly surfers and warm weather. Big learner boards are expensive and the waves are not of a great quality tho. At this point in time the northeastern breaks are kinda small, D1 is decent now a nice medium size but still lots of closeouts and short rides.
