want to learn to surf

I wanna learn to surf and but absolutely know nothing about it. I read the sticky but I just wanna see if anyone has any tips. I'm about 5'8 5'9 something like that someone told me about a 6'3 board would be for me. I plan to surf year round and quite often.

do yall have any other advice

6'3 is way too short to learn on.

You want something that is at least 7 1/2 feet, quite wide and pretty thick.

There are a lot of posts in the forums about boards, so read through some of them.

People on here are friendly and always willing to offer advice.

I looked on ebay and saw some of that size. I noticed that some of the ones had different fins or # of fins or thats what they called them what about that?

i switched early on to a 6'3" high performance thruster. bad desicion. go with the funboard, or a foamie(for mushy waves)

foamies suck. alot.

unless you go with a doyle or a softtop, you can't catch a wave on one to save your life, even if you manage to, they still suck. They keep bending like a bboard, and are i mposible to turn. Even if you do get a softtop, it still sucks, just not to a great of degree of suckyness.

Bics suck too, sure you can catch all the waves you want, but when you try and turn one, won't happen.

I'm not just biased about them, I've ridden bics and softtops and foamies and whatever other popouts, they just don't feel right, or work right, or do anything right.

to sum it all up, they suck.

I went all over the place yesterday looking to see if I could find a used surf board I couldn't find one.

I would steer clear of anything 'soft' unless you are opening your own surf school!

You'd be far better off on something like this: (only looking at ebay)

However, I wouldn't buy a board from ebay!!

Get a mini-mal or funboard. I wouldn't look at what kind of board you want afterwards yet. The one you pictured looks OK, but you can get better for your money!

Anyway, you don't necessarily know what type of board you're going to want then - you might become a longboarder!!

Yeah those boards where nice. I've looked everywhere in my area I hit every surf shop and other places that have boards but can't find any used ones I don't want to buy a new one for my first board.

do yall happen to have any ideas where I might find a used board at?
