Base coat

I've just got my first board and it came with wax, but i was wondering if i have to put base coat on first or can i just put the wax straight on?

Hi dcfc123 - take a look at this surf wax post.
I will always use a base coat for a brnad new board or when I have totally cleaned of all the wax for full rewaxing
