help an amatuer please

im trying my hand at surfing but to be honest know nothing about it me and my family go to the beach ALOT so i figured why not looks like fun so my dad bought me this board from a garage sale and was wondering if anyone knew anything about it. its called a POST MODERN PRECISION SURF BOARD its 9.6 long and in pretty good shape i just got it today so i havent been out yet was just wondering if any has heard of it? thanks

Sounds more like a general description of a longboard than a brand name. Where do you live and are there any surf shops nearby? Probably ask around there would be your best bet. Some old timer will know about them if they were local sharpers. If not, dunno...

it was made by a machine. the "shaper" punches in the design and then this big ol' machine cuts out the shape. shaping is pretty much math, but also art. so the person who uses the machine uses other shapers designs and such to make these boards. instead of taking 2 hours or more to shape one board, it takes about and hour or less for 2 boards to be cut, fixed up, checked, re checked, and so on.

this is supposed to help out big names in the surf industry to ship out orders like Lost surfboards, Channel Islands Surfboards, G&S, and soooo on.

i dont support the big names, i like to see the local shops stay in business, so i get their boards.

Word... much cheaper too... I just bought a funshape from my local surfshop for a bargain! :wink:

There are many reasons to buy from local shaper:

* Get to know locals and get valuable input from someone who knows local conditions

* support local trade

* Ride boards made for the conditions and places you'll be surfing

* Build relationship w/local shop for deals on trade-ins and used boards

* generally far superior board than some pop-out from a machine!

These are just a few...there are many others...
