Hi all does anyone know what Fuerteventura is like for surfing? We are heading there start or july to Stay north in island..

Fuerteventura has some great waves, it's a popular destination for UK surfers in the winter months for some good swell and warmer water.

The north is great for surfing, especially in the winter months when the wind dies off and the large swells come through. What level are you? you have a few options around the Corralejo area for way to surf, y can either rent a car and go to the spots on your own. This is ok if you are a competent surfer and don't piss off the locals. you can pay for a guided tour with one of the surf school or go for lessons. It is important to make sure that the school you go with is registered to teach as there are lots of illegal school. (I will try and get the list of legal school from the council for your guide on this forum) but the 3 main schools are Island Boarders surf school Fuerteventura/Flag Beach, Homegrown and Quicksilver. These three have been established the longest and are the largest schools.
The start of July isn't really the best time for surfing as there can be quite a bit of wind but there are always waves and I would say that time of year it is going to be best in places like 'step beach' and the south end of cotillo (both on the west coast). I wouldn't advise going to esquinzo beach as this is a very local spot and during the summer months there can be trouble with rental cars.

Hi Dowdy01,
the north coast is probably the best place for the surfing in Fuerteventura. I just find out this video from Corralejo and this location is only about 1 km from the town center of Corralejo. (I was there just few months ago.) The location is easy to identify because there is a small (and high) island on the background.

Fuerteventura and its north coast is one of the best place for surfing in Europe, but unfortunately not in july : too windy and no swell (just wind waves)...

This place is caled Rocky Point (or Punta Helena by the locals) and the name of the island on the background is "Lobos".

There are some webcams showing real-time weather conditions for some spots. The listing of the Fuerteventura webcam here and the corresponding places are :
- for Rocky Point => webcam Corralejo El Campanario (panoramic view of Corralejo's bay, with Rocky Point reef into the foreground and Lobos island into the background)
- for El Cotillo (and Esquinzo) => webcam El Cotillo Piedra playa (there are some nice waves today)
- for Spew Pits => webcam El Cotillo El Muelle Chico
