Beginner board

I have been surfing a few times but now I want to get a new board to learn on. I am thinking of soft top but I am torn between a short or long softie. Note(my goal is to get down to a short board)

Don't get a softie, long or short. They're just for the first couple of times you go out.

Hire a softie a couple more times, or hire a 'proper' board (a big one) and give it a go.

Welcome joem , I suggest you have look at the surfing lesson part of the forum at surfboard advice there are 320 topics and 2149 posts on just what you are asking.

To advise you properly beyond knowing you've been surfing a few times, things like weight height and age, general fitness and where you plan to surf help us advise you.

Soft tops are an early learning toy whatever their size, choose longer now until you get well beyond the fundamentals.

I would look into a Stewart Egg. I dont' know their website, but google stewart surfboards and look at their "fun board shape". You dont' have to buy that one, but I think thats an awesome shape for a beginer because you can have fun on it for a whole year. You wont get bored after a few months like you may on a longboard. Stewarts have okay resell value as well, as do most beginner eggs.
