Qell through my thourogh research and observation, I will have to say you are incorect.

Through germoties formula, I have calculated 2.49230834 hours to the second, all under a radical.

I hope that clears everything up for you.

Really, as long as you can hold your breath, dosen't matter how long you can now, but as long as you can.

If you dive (spearfishing type) it should be no problem. No problem for me because I surf small clean ones. But i have done 3 m inute breathholds out of water

maxkid: Normally you pop straight back up, so maybe 5 seconds. On bigger days you can be held down for up to 30 seconds, but being 12 and asking such a question I doubt you're out during those days.

Big wave riders are sometimes held down for over a minute and can be held down whilst a second and third wave crashes on top of them.

If you're being held down for a long time the idea is to stay calm and not panic. If you panic you use up all your oxygen and significantly increase the risk of drowning - even in smaller waves.

My best tips are to think of when you're being born... as soon as you fall on a big wave and know you will be held under just put yourself into that state and let the wave do what it needs to do with until you pop back up. Another good one is to make it a competition with yourself about how long you can keep your breath. When you fall, just say to yourself "let's see how long we can keep our breath this time" and start counting. Most people are able to keep their breath for a minute if they just stay calm, so unless you're out where you shouldn't be, you will always be fine. It may sound silly, but you'll be amazed of the difference. I've had near drowning where I've paniced and started breathing in water, just sinking in the white wash. These tricks have helped me through even worse situations...

" damn , you got a good memory !!!!

:) ' Maxkid ...

swimming , lots of swimming underwater in a pool or the ocean will excersise and expand your lung capacity .. but try not to worry about it too much , just build your confidence in the water with or without a board ..and when 'dunking time' comes you wont panic !

" all part of the fun " :D

Or you could just hold your breath and run along the bottom while carrying a large rock, a la Blue Crush. Worked for her, why not for you?

Deathfrog's calculations are unfortunately based on out of date research.

My work with the Department of Research Into Pointless Statistics (DRIPS) suggests that currently when falling from a BIG wave (defined as somewhere between 2 and 70 feet depending on who you ask SOURCE: SED Surf Exaggeration Dept 2004) you stay held under for 2.7664 hours precisely.

This takes into account the ME (macho embellishment) factor which was missing from Deathfrog's research.

I hope this clears everything up.
