North NSW trip

North NSW trip

Postby 312T4 » Mon Nov 12, 2012 1:30 am

Hi guys,

we are planning to pack the boards and visit the north coast of NSW during christmas.
We are in Brisbane, so we'll go south and we'll have 5 days.

Any suggestions for a beginner with a Long? (I'm not super crap, but let's say that 4ft is enough)

I only know Byron Bay and Crescent Head (never been in the latter spot).
Crescent is also kind of far.. the very limit of the trip, if it's worth.

Any suggestions will be much appreciated! :D

My tip would be to just drive from beach to beach and have a look on each day.

Lennox Head is nice, and Ballina has some ok waves. Also check out Yamba and Angourie.

Some of the more famous points get very crowded over summer, even without waves. So I agree with Jimi - just pick a beach on the day. If you head to Byron you probably wont even be able to get in the water.

You've got some great spots to check out, just a few extra awareness for you, Byron is a zoo for surfing over summer, absolutely loaded with people who have come for " the surfing experience" most will be there from countries with little or no surf culture and hence little or no awareness in the water can be mayhem and dangerous.

Lennox is a great point wave but has a difficult rock off, but here are beach peaks along all the beach.
Remember between each peak there is a rip and as you are on your travels take care.

Angourie point is a bit beyond upper beginner level when it is really working but there are still spots around there.

There are a couple of pocket guide books around showing the surf spots with a rating to match abilities.
One trouble often other travelers have the same guide.

Ballina and Yamba hope good chances.

Good luck and good surf :!:
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun!
