I would probably just get something used for right now. There is no need to have a really nice high performance expensive board while you are still learning. You will probably just ding it up, as beginners are hard on surfboards, especially fiberglass surfboards. I would get a new board In a year or two when you start ripping. Who knows... with some looking you may find a fairly nice board in the $250. price range.
