Hello guys

This is my first post here and I hope to get some informations and tips from you :D

So I'm planning an around the world surf trip, starting in New Zealand(1month), Australia(North-south, about 2months), Hawai(2-3 weeks) and California(norht-south about 1-2months) in this order.

Start will be march 2013 till July/august... Now I would really appreciate if you could recommend some spots, locations, ways of traveling in the different country's and accomandations...of course I don't wanna go to expensive hotels and stuff, more like motels, campings etc..
My surflevel is intermediate... :)
Looking forward to hear from your experiences

Wow, Goengel, that's a great plan.
Where are you starting from?

I imagine the NZ to Australia leg would be North Island to Brisbane in Queensland and coastal cruise to Sydney to hook up to the Hawaii flight. So the Oz leg would be April /May, quite a
Prime time to score surf :D do you have a bucket list of spots you think to surf.
Most north coast beaches have a camping ground or caravan park nearby, Easter might coincide and then they
are usually booked out.
There are also basic camps in the national parks no showers and drop toilets but a small fee. Often they are right on a good break :D
Good luck more details of your plan may get more advice :D
NICE,
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun!

Hi goengel, welcome to Surfing Waves!

Sounds like a great trip you've got lined up there. For your New Zealand leg, the West Coast of the North Island offers some great waves. There are lots of uncrowded spots all down the coast, and some classics like Raglan and Stent Road. The Taranaki peninsular is well worth a visit. Get yourself some transport and drive down Surf Highway, checking spots as you go.
New Zealand is really well set up for camping, a cheaper option for a longer stay. Take your own tent or stay in a chalet. Lots of choice for you.
On the South Island, the Kaikoura area is a great surf location. There are a number of quality point breaks along a small stretch of coastline. The water's colder the further south you go, so
you'll definately need a wetsuit.

As Jaffa suggests, if you can be more specific about the areas you want to visit, it will be easier for people to give more specific advice.

Hey..Yeah sounds good I know  :D I'm from Switzerland.. I wanna start in NZ, probably Auckland. Then I got one month to explore NZ(march) probably by bus... So I hope to surf some good spots there..Then I thought of flying to Melbourne. From there I got probably about two months to get to cairns(april-may). So there's no exact bucketlist there...maybe you could recommend me one..? :D :D

So next stop from cairns would be hawai, I thought of being there for about 2-3 weeks(june). Hawai is probably also the most expensive one...and from there heading over to San Francisco and heading south to San diego in about 1 or 2 months.. till end of july/august...In California i'm thinking of stops at huntington, santa barbara, trestles...
