Getting the right board

Hi everyone, my first post here and looking for some advice. I currently have an NSP 8'2 longboard but at the weekend I had a go on my mates 8'6 board and found it was a lot easier to stand up on. Now I'm looking to swap or trade my board for something longer and really buoyant as I'm quite big (6'2" tall and just under 15 1/2 Stone). 8'6 would maybe ok but nothing more than 9' as I'd like to easily carry it in the back of my T4 van. I've never really looked at any other boards as until now it's been more about just trying to get the basics of surfing sorted. Any advice on a good board would be appreciated.

What length is you T4? LWB or SWB.... I could fit a 10ft board in my T4 with a bit of care, even fit an SUP in once by turning the passenger seats around the other way. If you liked an 8'6 you'll love a 9ft.

It's a SWB, yes I suppose at an angle I can see how a 10ft board could fit in ok, reckon I might go for 9ft though which I hope will be good

Nice one, I think I'm decided now on getting a 9 foot board, just need to find somebody willing to swap or trade on one now

Yes, that's awful and I certainly don't intend to offend anyone and feel for all those who've lost. A name like Sharkbait's less likely to offend here in UK but I might consider something else for international sites.

Check out Stewart's Redline 11. I just got one but haven't been to the beach just yet. Mine's 25" wide and 3 3'8" thick and EPS. Supposed to be great for a "larger" surfer. They are selling them like hotcakes.

Yes, that does look good actually, will need to look into whether they're available in the UK.

An old post but figured I'd close it just by saying that I decided to keep the NSP 8'2" for now, I had a couple of good sessions just after these posts so will see how things go.

It's amazing how a couple of good sessions can make you feel about your board.
The same as the flip side, a couple of bad sessions and you think someone's swapped your board for a dud.

I was looking at the redline, awesome board. Ended up with another Mcatavish, the 2012 SLX. a comparable board for much less. Got mine for $699 instead of nearly $1000 plus. Either way you can't lose. Mainly went with the Original by McTavish because they offered a 9-6 and there's nothing more exciting then riding a 9-6 during Hurricane Leslie here in Florida in occasional 10ft waves, but mostly 4-6, ok ok I bought it because that's all I had on me at the moment and wanted new board that day :p
