Carrying Longboards in a Shortbed

I'm wondering if bagged surfboards can be carried on edge? I'm getting ready to build a bed cage for my Tacoma and trying to decide on design. Can I mount them on edge like a kayak or do they have to stay flat?

I think you mean "on the rail" when you say "on the edge." If correct, then yes you can transport bagged boards on their edge. You can also place foam or carpet between the bagged board and truck bed. I'd do that even if I was using my heavily padded bags.
