Forgetting how to surf

Hello,
the question is: If you haven't surfed for more than half a year, will you forget how to surf?

You'll definitely be rusty, probably need a few good sessions to get back in the swing. I find I need at least one sesh on a quiet break with minimal competition for waves to get back up to speed after more than a month without a wave.

Same for me as for garbarrage. Although it depends on how long you have been surfing, and how many days in row (withouth big pauses). If you've surfed one year already withouth these 'big pauses' I wouldn't say that you would 'forget how to surf'

hey thanks a lot, ive been surfing for two years straight, no big pauses, but now i moved to holland and live far from the sea, so its harder to be able to surf. I havent surfed for two months, but gonna go surfing 10 days straight in france next week, u think its gonna be hard to get back on track? im 15 years old

No... but it will certainly slow your progress. 2 months isn't a big hit, especially if you get to surf regularly at 10 days straight of good swell. If you live far from the Ocean at your age, you may have to reconsider your career on the ASP world tour though.

Ill just start on a fish the first day to get back on track and then grab my shortboard, you think thats a good idea?

Can't hurt. What I mean is, if you live far enough from the ocean that your consistency suffers, it will obviously have an effect on how much better you get and how quickly. You will be rusty after 2 months compared with having had a good surf yesterday, your reflexes will be a bit slower, your moves won't be as sharp. If you consistently leave it 2 months between surfs, then your progress as a surfer will suffer. Obviously, not as badly as leaving it years between sessions but you will notice a difference, in both style, and fluidity.

But, no... you won't forget how to surf.
