12' Bruced Jones Superfloater

I am a begginer 6'1", 280lbs and i just bought a Bruce Jones 12'x26"x4 1/4" Superfloater. Does anyone have one that can comment on the board? It seems to catch waves well, still working on the standing up part.

One basic question to start the ball rolling, are you using it as an SUP or as a longboard?

Surfboard, although its a s big as a SUP's.

That is one big board and it will certainly catch anything that moves, it will be as stable as all get up and you will be able to stand easily, Ilooked at the site and it looks like they may be epoxy as well one floating machine.
One thing is very evident you have taken unknowingly most of the advice about getting a longgggggggg board and at 280lbs it is all good.posting.php?mode=reply&f=15&t=20296#
When you get to be able to turn and work the board well coming down to a 10fter will be like going short.
You could probably even knee paddle the board and that equals half way to pop up

a lot of board to carry, but once you master it you will be the guy fardest out in the lineup

as big as it is i am still struggling with the pop up standing part. i have been catching 2-3 footers but i am still only getting a knee or a foot under me. i have only been out 6 times know with this board. I will be practicing again in the morning.

You are a big man in weight so quite a bit of practice of doing burpees, push ups and pop ups on dry land to get some speed and fitness for them is required, you really need under most circumstances to be able to go from lying down to a low crouch in one fluid movement. The land prctice is important as the board even yours is a lot more unstable . I suggest you try knee paddling then you've just got to stand up , and you'll end up with original surfers bumps!

Early days and it does get better with practice!

Because they didn't get to walking in the first attempt and that is padding from when they fall, and the first falls are always on their bottoms.

You may already know this stuff, so apologies if its a bit basic. I found three tips on popping up that worked for me (in addition to the stuff Jaffa mentioned, which is the key):

1. use your toes to help (see the video at the end, the guy does this). You may already do this without realising. Probably not the technique to rely on if you are intending to shortboard at some future stage, but it makes it so much easier on a long board.

2. make sure you have your hands down near the bottom of your rib cage, to maximise the height you can push your shoulders/hips up. If your hands are up around or above your shoulders, they are too far forward. I found this was a problem for me - after paddling I just brought my hands 'straight in' at shoulder level.

3. 'commit' - don't be hesitant about popping up, you need to really commit to doing it. Its like riding a bike - going slower because you think you might fall actually makes riding harder, not easier.

Oh, keep your head up and looking forward. If you look down at your feet it actually makes the pop up harder because the weight of your head is 'in the way' and you are unbalanced whe you stand (okay, one last tip - when you stand you should be as low as possible. This makes it easier than popping up and trying to stand tall at the same time - again see the video)

I found the 'aussie sprinter' method described at the end of this video was really useful when I started off. I'm not sure about the 'knee technique' described in the middle as a long term option, but if you are going from knee paddling to standing, as jaffa suggested, then I would guess this is the technique to follow.

Oh, keep your head up and looking forward.

And don't forget to shoot a look to the left and right, both as you're paddling/catching the wave and popping up. You could be dropping on on someone, or even about to collide with someone already on the wave. Pretty important in a crowded lineup.

i m 290
very important dont buy sups because is very different than a surfboards for big boys. i already tried .

i ride infinity surfboards 10'4 10'6 11'0 and the bruce jones 12'0

i raccomended width 26 to 27. not more .
thickness over 4

we big boys need boards that permit early pop up and big volume . if u need any info write to me i have changed a lot of boards searching the best.
longboard rocker is not a su rocker . the sup when u paddling to catch the waves have too much volume under your chest and lwer volume on te tail. this work not good for big boy surfers. write to me if u need help.

He has mastered the pop up or is it a crush down where he pushes the board down to push up, it gets him over the edge and into the wave.
