Haha well I have about 10 pairs of board shorts so I wore one inside to out my car key in an another pair over to hide my 7 year old wetsuit!

I started off on a 7'2 minimal which I managed to get to my feet on my second try. I then swapped it for an 8'10 which was easier to catch waves on but still struggled. Swallowed way too much water! :lol:

Well i rented out a 7'2 Minimal, managed to get up, on my second attempt. After about an hour and only standing up about 3 times i rented out an 8'10 which was easeir to paddle with but still struggled i was no better!

Went out again yesterday after i purchased a complete bargain if i do say so myself!

I'd say it went really well! Managing to get up to my feet on 3 different types of boards in 4 hours was a great result. Had a fair few wipe outs, swallowed lots of water and my eyes went blood shot.. it was still awesome! Now i have my own board i can concentrate on the smaller things such as paddling and locating myself on the board properly! Will be back in the water Saturday, earlier if i can!!

Managed to go out again Saturday just passed, had a good run waves were still choppy but much easier to get out. Apart from my face taking in too much water, i was having fun. Turns out i'm learning on a 7'6!

Can I pass on some online learning I found very useful - it isnt so much showing you how to do something but why you are doing it and why something works (or doesnt work). Sounds strange, but to me (at least) learning the why has proven to be extremely useful - guess if you know the 'why' you can figure out the problems with your 'how'.

Anyway - go to youtube and search for 'big whiteboard wednesday'. There are about 10 videos or so, useful to watch them in order.

Went out again on Saturday, really starting to be able to feel the board better when paddling. decided to try and catch a wave with the big boys, i at sh!t as i kindly put it :lol:

i feel like i am getting used to the board.

Anyway here is my £100 bargain!

Would this board be a little too small for me to learn on? I am tempted to get a long board as the waves this time of the year are not great most days.

Hey Wherry you've got this board, if it paddles well then you can make a start and this will do you for quite a while yet, just go out and don't think too much ! It is a good learning board!
Yes longer again would be easier, but this board is way ahead of the stuffaround 6'2" you were thinking of.
With any board you are still quite a while from being able to competent in the water only water time will give you that, enjoy the learning :lol:

Well im off out again, thanks Jaffa for all your advice and everyone else who chipped in really appreciate it. Taken up body boarding again too which is helping out. I'll take a picture of my local surf spot too
