3 months in northern Spain, where to stay

Hi, i'll be spending 3 months in northern Spain starting July. I'll be working 3days a week and I would like to surf for the rest of the day. I recently took a surf camp so I'm a total beginner. Can you suggest a city that would be nice base for exploring surfing spots in Northern Spain with a little bit of nightlife and a chance to meetup with other surfers?

And also I need to buy a board. Should i go for a soft board or is Minimal a option if I'll be surfing at least 3 times a week? How long board should I buy. (I'm 182cm / 74kg)
