The shot was taken from about 300metres away I stood on a rock shelve and used hand held a EF 100 / 400 IS Canon lens on a 550D at 400mm on auto shootand focus for sports as I was shifting between two different shot area.
The water view came when I pulled the focus in with cropping. There was so much water moving I would have had to have been up to Olympic standard to get water shots.
This is a BTW for all budding photographers in our digital age, it still really helps if you can compose a good shot , all the photoshop tricks in the world really only provide an enhancement, IMO they cannot make gold out of a crappy shot.
Great thing about being a surfer and knowing how who you are shooting surfs makes it that much easier to compose a shot.
I sell a few shots to local and visiting surfers , I make enough to upgrade equipment.
One thing I like to do is shoot grommets and give them an encouragement photo for their parents to hang!

I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun!
