Surfboard Roof Rack???? help...

Postby Samsurf » Mon Apr 02, 2012 1:15 pm

Hi, I have a Peugeot 307 Convertible, hard top, 3 door... can anyone recommend a soft surf board roof rack suitable??? It is to carry just one surf boad. Most seem to be suitable for 5 door cars and mine is a 3 door, and none hatch back.... thanks

it'll be fine as your doors are somewhat longer than those of a 5 door. so you'll have a strap as far forward as you can get it, and the other as far back as possible. so long as its not a longboard, you should be ok.

failing that, roof down :) mate of mine has an 8ft foamie and he drives an mx5.... no hope of a roof rack for him but he gets on ok really

you could always find the correct thule roof bars and fitting kit and then have a look on fleabay. i got a set of of aero bars with the latest fitting kit for my gold mk4 for 66 quid inclusing P+P. absolute bargain as the new price was £200 plus.

I don't recommend any sort of load on a convertible. Those hard top convertible roof are not designed for load carrying.

new convertibles are very safe upside down so i'd hazard a guess that a surfboard would be a non effort for it

The strength comes from re-enforced A pillars, not from the roof, surfboard on the roof is like fitting a giant lifting device.

samsurf, I've got a similar problem with my ford fiesta. Been checking out Northcore soft roof straps. Unfortunately my back windows don't open - is it possible to feed the back strap through the boot door? cheers
