North East specific boards

Hi! I was wondering if there are any surfboard construction attributes that are good for surfing within 3 hours of NYC? I'm looking to buy my first board and it'll be a longboard or a mini mal. I've been learning in South Africa and am considering taking a board home with me. It would be a great souvenir, but I want to be sure I can catch and ride the waves at home which are different than the ones here. Would love to nose ride one day! I'm 5'2", 132lbs and 40yo. Thanks!
