Getting a board home from california

Hi everyone,

This summer I'm going to california for 2 weeks and intend to buy a board and bring it home with me. however british airways doesn't accept surfboards of this size in its luggage.
has anyone ever done this before or has an idea of the best way to do this / cost i might be

If you know the dimensions of the board bag, or shipping box you can get shipping quotes? Shop around and compare. Yes it is work, but if you shop around, at least you will know what your best options are. You may find It to be to expensive. Can you check with any other airlines in your area to see if they have the same restrictions? Have you already purchased your ticket?

hi thanks for the replies i tried to get quotes but when putting in the size into shipping quotes its always over size and yes i already have the ticket. All the companies require a phone call which is difficult as I'm in the uk. Anyone have any other ideas how i can get a rough quote

Newport,
Provide the following and I will get a cost for you from UPS.

1. Board length (9 ft?)
2. Uk telephone number
3. Residential address, including postal code (and make it very clear for this Yank what the name of the city is. Some of your city names baffle me)
4. A business address near where you live or work (this will be used for a second quote so you can compare the difference between home delivery and business address delivery. I'll also get neares port delivery to you residence. Then you will go get)
5. Also tell me if you think you will ship from business (hotel even), residence, or port in california
6. Dont transmit all this info on forum. Use private message in forum

I used to own a small courier company and used to use a parcel reseller in Troon called Ccl - they beat everyone by at least half the price of normal quotes. Give them a try as I know dhl now do a next day service from the states!

Call a local surf shop, they either ship for you or know someone that does, most local shapers have some out of town clients and ship regularly.

HI Guys thanks for all the help, Have to say as they have been great Bing surfboards let me pick my boards up and surf them, then are shipping them back to trim in the uk for me to pick up they have all been really helpfull so just letting everone know incase anyone else ever wants to get a longboard out there and fly BA
