Is skateboarding or snowboarding more similar to surfing and why?

Does one help for surfing more than the other?

generally, i think, it allways helps to be boardsporting...
however, i really needs some specification...

if you mean skateboarding by trick skateboarding x-games thingy style, then not so much... if you go for a flexed board, with big wheels and wide trucks (a longboard if you like which doesnt have to be that long btw), thas quite helpfull imho...

snowboarding in my eyes is very simialar to surfing.... however, if you realy want to get the surf feeling, go powder with the board... this is, except that you are strapped to the board, the thing that comes closest to surfing...

i allways thought, that doing sports with boards helps with surfing.. because you get used to having a board under your feet and moving your body accordingly... then you can leave most of your attention for the waves which makes surfing, well, a bit easier id say...

No. Neither is like wave surfing.
Wave surfing provides more dynamic variables.
It is more physically demanding.
It is also more spiritual because you are completely enveloped in nature.

Both snowboarding and skating will help you improve your fitness, leg and core strength - in that sense they will help.
