Agree entirely with Roy in this, this is twelve foot, all other measurements are in my opinion hairy chest beating alpha male posturing.
My simple scale is on a normal guy overhead is 6, double is between 10 and 12, triple is getting serious and 4 times in the you really need to know what you're doing at an extreme level, beyond 3 is now out of my league and 4 times, well I surrendered to that in my late thirties.

That big now if I was in the water I'd be an obstacle to avoid

Big wave surfing is awesome for its own sake it doesn't need a layer of BS added to impress

No, not invented, though surfing began here and that's how we measure waves. If you ask me, calling this wave 12 feet is a more pounding the chest type of way to describe it than 4-5 feet. Nonetheless, there are several ways of measuring waves my 2-3 feet is your 4-5 and so forth.. Argueing about who is right and wrong is pointless as do you count the face, do your count the back as to where the true water line is, where's the bottom of the wave actually etc.. Wave sizing is largely geographical in description, that is why I called it 4-5 Hawaiian. Have you seen 10 foot Pipe? Its gigantic though we call it 10'. I see visitior's in our line-up all the time saying our 6 foot waves is the biggest they ever seen. A 12-15' wave for me is Big Sunset or small Waimea and I am not going out on those days. Again, I am not saying you are wrong in your description as to size but neither am I. That is what we call it here in the birth place of surfing.

I am with the other guy. What you do at the end of a wave is your business and I am not sure there is a correct way to finish a wave. Jump off, dive off, sit down, bail... whatever, as long as you are not hurting anyone do it anyway that makes you smile. Geez, its surfing not rocket science and as long as you are having a blast and not indangering anyone who cares?

Wouldn't the B.S. be coming from the guy claiming bigger rather than smaller? Only thing we would agree on is that your unit of measure is yours and I am glad you called it "My" cause mine was done with different standards. I guess when you are used to surfing crap all day, your unit of measure grows as to make your feel more manly and maybe pound your chest as to how big a wave you have conqured. Haha, what a joke.
