Mentawais - resonable accomodation

I will be going on an Indo-trip next year for 6 weeks. I will start out in Bali and see from there, i dont want to be planning too much...

now i just found out, that the flight from Denpasar to Padang is so very cheap, that i am thinking of including a week (or at least some days) on the mentawais into my trip...
checking stuff out, i can only find bungallows and ships that offer accomodation, but i dont feel like paying 2k for 7 days...
does anybody know resonable accomodation on the mentawais? can i go alone there or will i need guiding..?
am an intermediate surfer, surfed head highs so far and get along with green waves just fine...

Hi Travelzomg, try this link I haven't been there but a friend has. It has access to two of the easier waves in the Mentawais, Pitstops, a right Beng Bengs a left and if you amp up a bit on on the other side of pitstops reef is Ebay a performance munchie left. They have boats that go to other spots and there are three rights on the other side of the island.
Try this, http://pitstophill.com/waves.html there are even cheaper feral camps around just google surf camps Mentawai, but a little harder to get to and you pay for boat rides etc. Any reliable camp you will be paying from $120 USD a day upwards the top resorts Kandui and Kandui villas over $300 a day.
Good luck but well worth the outlay
There is also Coconuts, http://www.coconuts-mentawai.com/ a cheaper option but a little more ravel to get to spots.
A bit of advice, planyour trip most of the good resorts are pre-booked and anything you can get on a whim is an adventure but can be dodgy

Hi,

I was in August on the Mentawai´s and stayed in a budget place on one of the islands. The camp was just a few hundred meters away from that pitstop resort and for sure not that fancy but much much cheaper. Have a look at this website: http://reginaadventures.com/. Elvis the man in charge is really nice and organises everything for you, just send him an email. I had a great time there and surfed every day the same waves as those other guys in the expensive lodges.
