A complete newbie! I've been wanting to learn for years and finally had my first lesson last week. Managed to stand a few times and also impressive faceplants(?) into the sea.

Hello everyone!

I've just signed up so thought I would say hello and introduce myself. I am a newbie to surfing, fancied trying it for ages but being based in Essex has made it more difficult to get into.

Got bitten by the surf bug in Bali last year and was hooked. I decided to see if I could hack surfing in the UK and that I'd not been looking through the rose tinted lenses of the experience I had in Bali. So I've just had 2 days learning to surf in Cornwall, needless to say there were the obvious differences and I did find it more of a challenge but I loved it!

Now I don't want to wait until the next holiday to have another go! So I am hoping to get myself a wetty and learn where the good surf spots are around the East Coast of the UK and hopefully find a few buddies here.

Hi findog, Rishie and SurferGirl83, welcome to Surfing Waves.

SurferGirl83, after a decent north westerly wind, head up to North Norfolk. Theres a few places you can get waves a little closer to home that Cornwall. I surfer breaks like Cromer and East Runton for a few years, the crew there are friendly.

Thanks for the warm welcome Surf Patrol. Hoping to get along to Cromer/East Runton sometime soon! Want to put what I have learnt to practice!

Think its awesome that the first person to use this thread registered in 2003 - that's a lifetime in web terms!

Me. Part Time surfer. Live in London, don't get to the coast enough nowadays, would love to give it all up and live by the sea. But then again, wouldn't we all.

Hey all. Craig here. From Gympie Queensland Australia. Are there many Aussies in here. Got back into surfing after a 20 year lay off 3 years ago. Got a 9'1" mal.

Hi Lara welcome, you are already racking up the posts, what are you doing in Berlin :?: Munich is the surf city
Keep the stoke, get some warm surfs going and you'll be hooked.
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun!

Are you tall enough to kick your feet right at the last second while paddling? That helped me to start catching waves on a shorter board. It might be bad form but it works.

Thanks Jaffa! haha, no not much surf here and i'm definitely not planning on trying my luck in the Baltic Sea! Was doing a season working in the Alps last year and somehow ended up in Berlin accommodation after that so working here now. Miss snowboarding but hoping to go somewhere warm to surf for a week or so soon! :D Hawaii if i win the euromillions!
