Need some advice, thanks.

Im 5'8 160lbs and I switched from my usual longboard 8'6, to a smaller board a 6'8 Retro Fish with a twin fin, made by zippi fish. I had one good day on it where i caught a fair amount of waves ( it was a sloppy day ) but the past three session have been pretty sad. I feel like i can't get into the waves correctly on this board. Im having trouble on peaky fast waves? I'm pretty sure this is not the boards fault? got any tips on how to handle this board. Should I have gotten a different board? Thanks for the help.

That about sums up the problem.
Fish aren't meant for fast peaky waves. They're meant for fat sloppy waves and to be moved around all over the place, not for shooting down the line at speed.

I would still keep your fish for all those small mushy days. I would also get a higher performance board for the faster hollower waves. Keep in mind that a norrower tail will hold into the wave better, and give you more control when the waves are bigger and hollower. That is why you see guns and step up boards with narrower tails, so they actually hold into the wave more and give you more control. The opposite can be said about a wider fish, as it will plane on top of the water quickly and skip out of control on bigger waves. All the characteristics to help the fish in small mushy waves can back fire on you when it is to big and steep! You just want to have the right board for the right surf coondition! Have fun and maybe add a board to your quiver!
