I think they are fine for beginners, they are well constructed, they hold their value well for resale.
Lots of people on the forum have asked questions about them, check out some of the posts with a search

greg2935 posted for bic opinions earlier this month - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17741

Are you thinking of getting one?

Bought one for my kids, that thing is indestructible! It surfed ok, not great, but for the price and durability it was well worth it. I swear they must have dropped it every single time we went surfing LOL

I have a BIC board and I dont really like it. But, good for the price

Bic Minimals = perfect first boards for beginners. Floaty and dont break.

Bic Shortboards = another story. If you are good enough to ride a shortboard they are too heavy and you will know how not to ding your board every time you surf. pointless.
