New Board Surftech Al Merrick flyer?

hi this is my first post so hello

Anyway as i'm getting older 45 now i'm finding my boards need a little more float. I have been thinking about a Surftech Al Merrick flyer. Am i right in thinking these boards have more float than a regular board. And will this mean that I can gain more float without surfing bigger boards?
I've never ridden a plastic board so any advice greately appreciated

Short answer YES.
Long answer below
Surftech boards are not plastic. (plastic are usually Bic bottom of the range and NSP boards at the cheap end of the scale).
The surf tech are epoxy, glassed differently and still have a inner core of a different foam, if you bought a board of similar dimensions to your current favourite, you would find the float about the equivalent of a normal board of about a foot longer much better paddling, a little harder duckdiving and you definitely need to keep the drive on going around the whitewater other than that ride as normal.
I have several surftech boards in my quiver I am happy with them and they are my "short" boards being 8ft instead of 9ft+ and they float the same!

I buy my epoxy boards locally from a shaper.

Surf techs are molded construction, at a factory. Local boards are made the same way as a fiberglass one but with epoxy instead. The difference is that they are not as stiff as the surftechs, and the shaper can customize it to your needs, and it will cost about the same or less.

yes you are right about supporting my local shaper and i always have. but the board i'm to buy will be secondhand, so that I can see what I think of it. Plus funds aren't great at the moment.
