A Warning to all Surfers - Thieves about

A friend of mine from philippines mentioned to me that it’s worth noting that if you have GPS navigation on your phone (vs. a separate device), this is probably less of a concern than if you have a separate device that you leave in your car. People tend to take their phones with them more than they take their GPS devices with them.Either way, it’s a good idea to follow a few simple rules to avoid becoming a victim:
Don’t leave your device (phone or GPS device) out in plain sight when you leave your car.
Remove the device holder when you park your car - many people stash their device in their glove compartment but if the holder is still there, thieves are not fooled.
Keep baby wipes handy to remove the mark that the suction cups leave – thieves are now looking for this mark so do everything you can to remove any indication that there may be something in the car worth stealing.
Do all of the above before you park your car at your final destination – unfortunately some thieves will sit in a parking lot and watch for good targets so it’s a good idea to plan ahead.

yea all the bennys in nj you leave anything in your car or on the beach in the summer or even put your board down and turn around for a min itll be gone !!! a friend of mine put his board down next to him and layed down face down and when he got up board was gone fleshin' up huh lol

Remember to protect your gear on holiday too, get good travel insurance that can cover you board & suit as well as yourself.

Just to let you know this is mint, kept my car key, money and credit card in and it kept everything bone dry and was skinny enough to put under my wetsuit.

I have one of these and fully recomend them!

Last week at rest bay south wales, a VW T5 was stolen, in it was the owners, laptop, wallet and phone!! keys to the van were kept in a lockbox hanging under the vehicle.
I was thinking of getting a lockbox until this happened. I will be sticking with my key pouch now!!

You can buy a waterproof key pouch/holder: basically a plastic bag with a waterproof enclosure, from amazon. I have to use these as my immobilizer works via the key, and if it gets wet, kills the battery and no car start. On the other hand my longboard attached to the roof of my renault clio is entertaining for everyone!

If you have a key which is button operated and cant get it wet, i have purchased a surf lock from the local surf shop. the brand is palmers, you can also fins some on ebay and surf stich. mine cost me around $50 aus and they are a combination lock and pretty heavy duty, i have had no dramas with it, i hide it in the back of my ute locked onto a hook of some sort. For a plain key having a pocket on in your wetty is convenient or just in a thick velcro pocket in you boardeis are good.
In the end these grubs are still gonna be out there and will get their karma one day.

i realy dont get, why ppl don't just get a non-electonic key...
it usually costs just a few bucks to get one and if its more expensive, its surely costs less than the lock boxes, combination locks, car claws or whatever...

get a non-electonic key, put all the valuables in the car (preferabely some place they are not too obvious), lock the car, stash the key in your wetsuit or board shorts, go surfing...
