Wear sea blue wetsuit - colour blind sharks can't see you

Postby billie_morini » Wed Jan 19, 2011 10:15 pm

Wearing a light blue wetsuit that matches the colour of the sea will make you less likely to become the victim of a shark attack, according to researchers.

Sharks are completely colour blind and only see things clearly if they are mostly light or dark, scientists have claimed.
In a breakthrough that could prove hugely beneficial to divers navigating shark-filled waters, scientists found that the predator - like dolphins, seals and whales - is unable to distinguish between colours.

I heard about this actually, just read it in the paper over here. apparently they're now looking at designing surfboards that are "less attractive for sharks".. right. Sharks seem to look for contrast to the water when checking something out. But I can't imagine a craze of sea blue surfboards coming along anytime soon, can you?

So it's brown wetsuits for all those UK North Sea surfers petrified of sharks. Nice.
I hope this doesn't put an end to those touting shark camoflage, it would be a real shame.

IN my opinion the best wetsuit you could buy to be not eaten by a shark would be a shark wetsuit. If it looks like a shark, its probably a shark! so i don't need to go take a taste test lol. - the fins.

Total rubbish! Is this April Fool's joke 4 months too early?

Sharks hunt not only with eye slight, BUT WITH other senses like smell (if you got a cut, watch out!), vibration and even can detect your heart beat.

Somebody posted statistics that in98% of shark attack that occurred the victim had peed.
My question is, BEFORE, AFTER or DURING
I've taken up troll hunting just for fun, instead of a rifle I'll just use a pun!

I find that taking a kook and having him wear a meat wetsuit helps keep the sharks away from me. :D

The contrast isn't only color, but think of the board/surfer blocking sunlight. Still easy to see. Good idea, and I'd be willing to try it out but I don't think it's the 100% solution. There is no solution! We're in the Ocean with Sharks, things can happen.

Hey

I have heard that before and every time I ask myself: but when you are lying on your surfboard a shark thinks it is a seal he'll just go up and bite you/your board so what does it matter what wetsuit you wear xD??
