Surfers used SUPs to ride the tidal bore. Excerpt: "... Turnagain Arm in the Cook Inlet near Girdwood, thanks to a phenomenon called a tidal bore, caused when the leading edge of an incoming tide pushes against an opposing current or the direction of a river. Hey Billie, I'vegot plans to ride the tidal bore in France called the Mascaret, a little less chilly and there is also the Severn bore The silver dragon in China and the Pocoroca in the Amazon.
There is also a newly discovered bore in Sumatra and another in Borneo. Ther might be some in Northern western Australia, but the last guys to mount an expedition got thoroughly eaten by crocodiles what was left the shark got!
problems for each.
turn again arm= freeze your bits off micellin man type wetsuits needed
severn bore = cold fresh water and curious farmers and crowded.
Mascaret = French wine and crowds cold too.
the silver dragon = Chinese bureaucracy, polluted water, major organization needed and logistics.
Sumatra difficult to get to as is Borneo.
Australia crocs and sharks even harder to get to than Borneo.
Pocoroca , the dread piranha and even worse the Amazon dick fish ( no description needed as to what it does! just consider the thought of it will make your eyes water.)

difficulty with all of them is timing your travel to get there at the optimal tide and river configuration and what I have already discussed.
BTW both the Severn Bore and the Mascaret publish a bore tide and quality chart.

Watch out on both for morons in speed boats and PWCs

I've read about the Severn tidal bore in England. This kind of thing sounds fantastic.

Billie I thought you and others might like to see the Severn Bore on Christmas eve last year it looks like it was having a go at imitating the Alaskan bore.

not sure its for me been thinking about going to have a go at the seven bore. but never been to sure because all the videos i have seen of it, it looks really weak think i would have to get a bigger board to do it.

From my research so far the Severn bore varies and there is a relationship between the incoming tide and the water levels in the river often the better tides are at night. I know that the Christmas ride shown on that you tube clip wasn't big. The bore does get bi enough to wash curious spectators in . Advice I've been given big heavier boards are better, debris in water,.and the area of wave behind the breaking face is quite thick. The silver dragon in China appears to be the biggest known but I think the Severn is easier to get to from Essex

Pororoca tidal bore is definitely the gnarliest tidal wave that I have seen!

please tell us that you have done more than see Pororoca. Tell us that you have ridden it!
