Surf trip in February

Surf trip in February

Postby murphysdreams » Thu Nov 04, 2010 10:39 pm

Hi Everyone,
My husband and I are planning a surf trip in Feb for 1 month and we were originally set on Indonesia, we learned that it is rainy season at that time so have opted out. Our next thought is Sri Lanka but I have never met anyone that has been there. We are really looking for surfing (I am beginner and he is advanced), good hot tropical weather, culture, great food and other amazing things to do, cheap as in we want to live for not more than $50/day (canadian) so not Australia or New Zealand. I have been to South East Asia, Mexico, Central America but am not opposed to anywhere. Just looking for any suggestions from any one where great to go.

Any insight is greatly appreciated :)

Srilanka is the place to go for February. Hikkaduwa to Mirissa. Nice waves, beautiful landscape, crystal warm water. I go every year.
Plus it's cheap, 30 USD max for an hotel if you want a good one and you can find cheap accomodation for 10-15.

Hey!
I would recomend Ecuador. Their best surfmonths are nov-april. The best beach months are January, feb, march with HOT sunny weather and waaaaarm water!
I have traveled with << URL removed >> they have a great package, you get a knowledgable surf guide thats speaks fluent english, he takes you to the best surfspots up and down the coast based on your level of surf. Food is included and you get to experience the real food culture in Ecuador. Accomodations are right on the beach in private beach villa. I would suggest you book 2 weeks with them and then maybe see if you want to travel and surf on your own. Their price is cheap! With everything included (24/7 surfguide/teacher, breakfast lunch and dinner, accomodation, car/transportation+gas) you pay $85 per person or $600 dollars per person/week.
Ecuador is safe and really friendly towards tourist and uses american dollars as their currancy.

How nice to go on vaccation for a month! Good luck!

Hello!

I would like to suggest coming to Panama for your trip.
We offer all inclusive surf packages that include transportation, lodging, and meals for under $1,000/person for 7 nights. Tours are private and a local surfer guide will escort you and your crew to all the best know and lesser known (Secret, shhhh...) spots on the Pacific and Atlantis coasts. There are waves for all levels of surfing and we offer surf lessons as well.
With the shortest distance between the two coasts, you can find good waves on both. Any time of the year is good for waves as when one coast is off, the other is usually on.

There are lot of other activities that you can do as well as visits to the Panama Canal, Rainforest exploration, Wildlife Reserves, Indigenous habitats, Hiking, Water Activities (Snorkeling, Free Diving), Island visits, Rafting, Nightlife outings in the best city in Latin America!

Check out << URL removed >> and/or PM me

Sri Lanka would be ideal for you in February on the west coast. You can certainly do it with back packing and you can also do some great accommodations as well. There are a few companies that you can visit if you are looking for a surf camp, we do a nice set up here at Xoxxi in Sri Lanka but it may be just over your budget, our cheapest in CAD is $601 but check them out for yourself at http://www.xoxxisurf.com/sri-lanka.html. Other options for you could be Surf Camp Sri Lanka at http://www.surfcampsrilanka.com or Sri Lanka Surf Holidays http://www.srilankasurfholidays.com but I dont know the quality of there service... there are a few other good ones too... r you could just go back packing up and down the coastline and get some good surf.

I think you have also been given some great advice above too so I reckon you should have no trouble in finding something you want. Good luck.

Aloha,
