How to progress from whitewater to greenwaves?

Hey guys

So been taking lessons and am now doing really well in the whitewater on a 7.0 funboard. Went out the back the otherday and it was much more of a challenge. So how do I go about progressing from surfing on whitewater to surfing on greenwaves out back? Is it more about practice, wave choice and honing your techinque, turns and stuff?
