Heart attack at 38!!!

Hi everyone, Just wanted to get some advice, I was really stoked about starting surfing in september 2010 (probally at Croyde Bay) but about 6 weeks ago I had a heart attack at 38yrs old :shock:

which has piss@d me off somewhat that it might be a bad idea to pursue surfing due to the cold waters. I do a lot of snowboarding and figured that surfing would be a great summer sport for me to do (or try) but am just concerned now that it might not be.

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Surfing is a great all year round sport. However I am no expert when it comes to medical conditions and wouldn't want to give the wrong advice seeing as yo uhave already suffered some serious ill health, so my advice would be speak to your doctor. He might say yes its a great idea. Oh and welcome to the forum.

I'd second speaking to your GP about it first.

As with most things, moderation is the key. In terms of swimming/surfing in general it is a fantastic all round work out.

so sorry that you have had this. I'll spare you the story, but you're not alone. Hope you'll find that you can do some surfing.

Good luck! and sorry to hear about your recent ill health. If your doc does give you the go ahead for more surfing then there are some more mellow breaks around the croyde bay area that you should check out when learning to surf.

Try getting pissed off less...stress is bad for the heart!

Sorry about you heart, follow your GP instructions, my pops heart quit on him while he was sleeping @ 53..no second chance!
..surfing should help your stress and exercise is always good for you..good luck.
