Wondering about car keys?

Hi everyone

I am just curious, when you drive to different beaches to catch your waves, what do you do with your car keys? Just curious, something I need to think about when I cruise down to the coast.

If the key has no electronics in it then put it in the pocket of your leg rope. If it does then buy a lock that you can put your key in and lock to the outside of your car. Google it.

most boardshorts have a little loop in the pocket for your keys. take the key that can unlock your trunk off the ring and put fix it to that loop and lock your alarm actuator and rest of keys in the boot. i see a lot of people with electronic keys use the little lockbox thing, they have it on their car's tow coupling thing. also a couple of companies make waterproof pouches you can put in your pocket. i see a brave few digging holes in the sand and tossing their keys in there.

Water proof pouches work well but i hang my keys around my neck inside my wetsuit.

I use the spare key for my car which has no electronics in it and i hang this around me neck using a ribbon and keep it inside my wetsuit.

Thanks Aloha and nope I dont work for an advertising company. I work as a nurse. It would be good to work for an advertising company whereas I can work Monday to Friday though. But then shift work has its perks when I can escape during the weekdays to the beach

Go buy a wetsuit with a key pocket on it. Otherwise by a hide-a-key box (locking or non-locking). To save yourself some money buy a realtor's key lock and clip to your door handle.

If your car key has electronics in it like mine (it's just an immobilizer transponder, but you still don't want it to get wet), you can have a conventional copy made that will open your doors just fine, and you don't have to worry about getting it wet. Keep your normal key safely right in the car.

usually just carabiner (sp?) it to my backpack with the rest of my keys. then i'll leave my backpack close to a lifeguard stand if there is one. i used to put it in a hidden spot in my car, but i got a new car, so i don't know where i'd hide them inside now..

My primary surf truck has conventional metal key. I wear it on a shoe string tied around my neck and tucked inside my wetsuit. When I have to use the "good car," with the electronic key, I either 1) bring the plastic locked out key into the water on shoe string, or 2) hide the electronic key on land. The usual hiding place is a sun roof track.
