Moving to Sydney Australia from South Africa

Howzit,

I am a south african and moving to Sydney, I have never been there before. Will land on Australian soil on 5th June. I really love the early morning surf sessions.

Please can anyone living in Sydney give some tips where the best spots to live and surf in Sydney. I want to be close to the city centre for work as well, however I also want to grab my board at 5:30am and go surf, keen to find a spot to live right on the beach.

I was thinking of setting up my spot in Bondi, but I am sure this place gets crowded. I don't mind the crowds as long as I can catch a few waves during the week on early morning sessions, then I am happy.

Any tips will be much appreciated.

I can't really help you with my experience at the moment as I am still livin with my family quite far away from the beach. I am just trying to get a job first so then I can set myself up.

I am looking to head to Manly (I have looked at Coogee, Maroubra and Bondi) but to me Manly looks like a real nice place (a little more expensive but I think its gonna be worth it). Everything in Manly is only a 15min walk, that includes the beach, pubs, shops and buses and ferries to city.

Also at Manly you also have easy access to the abundance of surf spots up the northern beaches (obviously easier when you have a car) http://www.wannasurf.com/spot/Australia ... index.html but as far as actually surfing them I have only managed to get out for 3-4 surfs since arriving here once at Maroubra which was aight, once at Dee-Why which was fun as hell (the wave wasn't even that great, was real sucky and the majority closeouts) and the other 2 have been at Manly (both aight but nothing special - there is a pretty bad flat spell here at the moment, so yea)

But dude keep in touch, coz my mate is hopefully joining me over here from NZ sometime in May, when I finally get a f**king job hahaha and a temp flat (coz he got no family here, so gonna crash at mine hopefully) anyways you sound like a good dude and hopefully my mate will have a job by then so we will be looking for a place. So if you choose Manly we could rent a 3 bedroom apartment on the beach or a house or whatever and could get each other up for these morning whole flat surfs before work and then ferry to city for work well that's my plans anyway as I said when I get a job.

Shot for the advice, yeah for sure we can keep in touch. I am very fortunate to have a job secured already. The first month of June they will put me up in their appartment, which is really cool, so I have 30 days to find a spot of my own.

Find a place for 3 of us to share, sounds like a good idea, but best we all meet up first and check how we all get along. I think I am going to find a temporary spot for now, lets say 6 months, just so I can get my stuff over, we can then meet up once I am down there, how does this sound?

Thanks for the advice bro, I will check out the scene in Manly, in fact my new job does not have a set office location, so being in the North might have some advantages when I need to visit clients to the North. Also, I am planning to get myself some wheels as well, as I am keen to spend some weekends on surf trips to the north, so you welcome to join me.

But yea i'm super keen for weekend surf trips as well bro, i hear that further north of manly, curl curl and dee-why etc towards Byron Bay are some amazing breaks that I am keen to check out. Will just say now tho, I'm no pro I have only been surfing for 1 1/2years but i will give anything a go and I am super keen to get pro

I saw this and if you are still picking up this a little geography lesson. There are18 northern beaches of Sydney between Manly and Palm beach. Byron Bay is at least another 12 to 14 hours drive north almost to Queensland there are surf breaks around both sides of every headland.
I've been surfing over 50 years and haven't got to them all. Some I wouldn't go to if the locals don't eat you the sharks will.
BTW I don't like localism unfortunately in some places it's a fact of life. But lots of fun to be had
