Beginer boards, look here if you wonder what to get

it measures: Length 7'6" mid: 21 in thickness:2.75 in

what do you all think of this board for a guy who's surfed a 8.5 ft foam board the past couple summer seasons.
It's 7'6" funboard. the nice thing is it's made of Surftech Tuflite and my friend is selling it for $400. is that a good deal?

i'm 6 ft, 180 lbs, newbie, surf redondo, manhattan beach, hermosa

i can ride the side of the wave and turn on a long board i can catch waves with a 5'6 fish and turn im 100lbs and 13 im also determined and go like 3 or 2 times a week does anyone have short board suggestions

Hi guys! Long time since I've posted and am finally looking for board advice

I have had a few lessons and am totally hooked now!! I live on the beach, so plenty of opportunity to surf to my heart's content!

I am a girl and don't have a lot of muscle to me (I found popping up tricky). 5'9 and 175lbs. I wasn't too keen on the foamie I was using, but can't really compare it to anything yet. I plan to surf 3-4 times a week so want something I can use long term, but won't be too much for me as a beginner.

Is this the sort of thing I should be looking at? Or should I go a bit smaller?

NSP's are great boards to use. Here in our surfshop we sell these and use these boards for beginners. Plus, it'll fit your needs for quiet a while until you decide to move on to something smaller, they also retain higher value since they are epoxy and are painted on the outside, therefore making them a lot harder to actually dent them and whatnot, you can be a bit more aggressive and mistreat it a bit more than a regular foam or SLX board.

Hi all...

I'm looking to buy my first board and would appreciate some help.

I am 5"8 and weigh 126 lbs. I've been surfing for a week, 3-6 hours everday. By the end of the week I could stand up every time in the white wash, was pumping and carving a little bit (in the Dominic republic, small to medium waves mostly). I also moved back behind the break and tried to catch some bigger waves (not as successfully, but managed to catch a couple). My instructor said that I did very well for being a beginner

I'm going to start surfing more regularly. I've got a two week trip planned to LA in August (where I intend to buy my board) and a 6 week trip planned to the DR again in February (where I'll be surfing 3-6 hours everyday). So I'd like to get a board that I can progress on. I'm in decent shape and am pretty strong for a girl.

Unfortunately, I live in Toronto and can't seem to find any shapers to talk to. But I plan on finding one when I get to Cali.

What height, width and thickness should I get? I will be traveling with it so one issue is that many airlines only allow boards 6"8 and under.

I found a used Channel Islands Al Merrick Flyer in very good shape for sale. 6"4, 19 1/2" ,2 1/2" would this be suitable for me? Keeping in mind I'd like to progress on it.

Thanks for this...really helpful. I've just had a couple of lessons and am dying to have another go. I hope to buy a second hand longboard when I've had a few more lessons, I'm going to ask my instructor after my next lesson (fingers crossed next week) so I can actually practise and have a bit of fun with what ive learnt!

I do have one question for any girls out there....when buying a board are there any differences I need to consider being a girl?

I went with a 7x21.5x3 but with a shortboard shape as my beginner board. Not ideal, but im on a very tight budget so i wanted to get something that I can learn on but still rip once I get good.
Its gonna be a bit of a challenge to learn on, which I can see from trying it out, but hey, you cant learn without falling first right?

I learnt on a MiniMal, it was one of the best boards i ever surfed and was surprisingly fast and quick to turn. But i only learnt on it because i live in the UK. If i was anywhere else, i would have probably started with a shortboard!

but if its a traditional fish its usally really skatey and hard to learn to do things right, and if its a modern fish its usally just a pumped up shortboard.

Hey everybody, I'm pretty new to this so please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place or whatever.

How's Taylors after the Christchurch quake? :shock:

Wow I'd try to buy local all the business in Christchurch must be smashed and a little bit of trade might help out.

For the overseas posters Christchurch in New Zealand has been hit by three major earthquakes, Sumner the beach suburb the CBD and Taylor's Mistake on the other side of the headland were smashed and some parts of the city are unliveable.
They have had over 7300 after shocks some as big as the initial quake.
Reubs hope you and your family are fine.
Mate go well in your learning, I had quite a fondness for Christchurch, go surf Maungamanu for me.
Fond memories of fresh caught cooked lobster and fresh baked crusty bread and organic butter spread sitting at the caravan with my wife just munching out with Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc wine while viewing the seal colony. NUM NUM NUM NUM.
